CSTA Submits Feedback on the ASEAN Free Trade Agreement ConsultationOctober 18, 2018
The Canadian Seed Trade Association responded to the Government of Canada’s invitation to provide comments regarding a potential free trade agreement with the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). ASEAN is a regional bloc comprised of Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. ASEAN represents a significant economic presence in Southeast Asia and a considerable market for Canadians.
Canada imports almost $6 million in seeds for sowing from ASEAN markets and exports $4.5 million. CSTA applauds the Government of Canada for continuing to explore trade diversification opportunities and supports entering trade talks with the ASEAN nations.
